Students from Greenfield Community College had a great evening at the Sedgefield School Sport Partnership Lighting the Fire celebration event held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure centre last week. The event celebrated the sporting achievements of young people, as part of our Olympic legacy.
Over 20 local schools attended the celebration, which started with Trimdon Grange Infants leading a warm up, followed by performances from destination Judo, Taekwondo and a gymnastics display by Thornhill Primary School.
The evening also included a guest speaker from Durham Wild Cats basketball team and Lee Fawcett, England’s wheelchair basketball and fencer.
The secondary schools attending were invited to take part in an interschool rowing event, and we were very proud that Madalyn Pateman-Patrick in Year 9 took 1st place for Greenfield in this event.
Greenfield students continued this success and were presented with 3 awards for their fantastic contribution to sport this year. The awards were for their contribution to PE & School Sport and for their contribution to Community Sport. Amber Dolby, a student in Year 10 received a Young achievers award for her sporting achievements and outstanding leadership.  Well done to all!
