Newtonian Anne Molyneux took two Australian cousins to the Durham Miners Gala who said they had never seen anything like it before. There were 47 banners paraded, most were from the mining villages and there were more from Unions all over the country. Anne sent in photos, one showing the town’s Pipe Band on parade.

“I am from a mining community (Station Town, near Wingate) and my father and two brothers were all miners so the Gala is very close to my heart.” said Anne
