Asda Bishop Auckland has helped to provide a grant of over £13,000 for Auckland Youth and Community Centre. The Centre provides young people with a range of activities and learning experiences, as well as low cost child care, a youth club, skills workshops and CV writing classes.
Ashley Casey, community life champion at Asda Bishop Auckland, applied for the funding through the Asda Foundation – the supermarket’s charitable organisation, which supports projects and good causes throughout the UK.
The store supported the centre with various fundraising activities and healthy eating classes in-store. The money will help repair the roof and security system of the community centre and fund new skills equipment.
Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation aims to have a positive impact on local communities, by providing support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda community life colleagues across the UK.
Julie Ward of Asda added: “We see the foundation as one of the many ways to give something back to the communities that support us. That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes with which our colleagues are involved, sharing their passion and helping to make a difference through a variety of projects across the UK.”
The Asda Foundation’s ‘Chosen by you… Given by us’ scheme gives customers the opportunity to nominate then vote for three local not for profit organisations to receive a tiered donation every two months. It also supports Asda colleagues who have already raised money for their chosen cause through their store or depot, and require additional support.
