The Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Wendy Hillary, attended the War Memorial outside St. Clare’s Church on Monday, 19 June 2017 to raise a flag on behalf of the Town to mark the beginning of ‘Armed Forces Week’.  The Mayor was assisted by Officers from Aycliffe Armoury and the Barnard Armoury.  A Standard Bearer from the Royal British Legion was present together with members and representatives from the Club.   A minutes silence was observed in remembrance of those who lost their lives and those affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower in London. The Service was conducted by Revd. Andrew Bryer and Arthur Middleton played the bagpipes whilst the Mayor raised the flag. Veterans and members of the public attended to mark this annual occasion.
