Nora and Brian Johnson of Osric Place celebated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 29th September.

The family arranged for the Mayor to visit last Tuesday and as they usually go out on that day Nora was told she would have to stay in to receive flowers. She was pleasantly surprised when a bouquet was delivered by the Mayor Val Raw.

The couple are both from Shildon and Brian got to know Nora through her brother who often joined him on cycling trips. Brian took a fancy to Nora and they started walking out and going to Dances together.

Marriage soon followed with the wedding at St. Thomas Church followed by a honeymoon in Nottingham.

Brian started his working life at Shildon Railway Shops and had a part time job driving for Eden Buses. After the Railway Workshop closed he became a full time bus driver for nine years before working for Bluebell Garage in Aycliffe until reaching retirement age. Brian also served 5 years in the TA as a Driver.

Nora intitially worked for Morrisons Fur Factory, moving on to Taps & Dies and then finally Shraegers at Aycliffe. The couple have changed homes eight times between Aycliffe and Shildon  and finally settled in Osric Place 10 months ago.

They enjoy travelling, taking advantage of Brian’s Railway Pass. Brian boasts of knowing his way around the midlands and south, using public transport, and camping or caravanning.

The couple have a son, two daughters, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
