Former Greenfield student Alex Kennedy is continuing his amazing story of inspiration and success now wishing to share with all to inspire everyone using music to make dreams become a reality no matter how hard things can be.

Alex is a 21 year old singer song writer, drummer and pianist who was diagnosed with a muscle wasting condition from the age of 4, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy being a genetic disorder charaterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness.

He started training as a professional singer under Pippa Anderson vocal coach, who he met whilst studying his Btec Diploma in music at New College Durham gaining DDD *** which gained him an elite place at Newcastle University BA Honours Degree in Popular and Contemporary which is now complete with outstanding grades.

Alex loves all genres of music from 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, musical theatre, pop jazz etc.

Alex has now returned to Newcastle University as a post graduate student, again studying his masters of music with honours and working with medical researchers on the effects singing can have on those with genetic conditions such as Muscle Dystrophy, specifically whether or not singing can help respiratory function in those with these types of conditions.

Alex has performed over the years at Durham Cathedral Durham Gala with the resident Big Band, Sage Gateshead, Durham Miners Institute, to mention a few, but recently was requested to sing at Hexham Abbey in the Spirit of Christmas concert amongst distinguished guests, singing with passion and soul giving full meaning of how music can enhance life. Alex’s powerful, passionate performance brought the audience to tears of joy and elation. Candles were lit to remember those who have already passed away from this cruel condition but also for all the boys living today.

His songs are often chosen to perform to motivate others but hold strong meaning to Alex living with the life limiting condition he has and the obstacles that arise each day.

Alex takes this opportunity to celebrate his life and encourage those around him.

Alex’s family and friends are extremely proud of how he has shone through this difficult and trying condition to find all the positives for his life to inspire others. He is a true kind, loving, funny man with a great future ahead of him and anyone who meets Alex will truly be inspired and can gain comfort from his successes.
