Flight Sgt Oliver Lakey, Sgt Helen Murphy, Sgt Lee Johnson and Sgt Gareth Sloane, all Air Cadets at 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron, recently completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
Three of them attended a presentation ceremony at St James Palace where they were awarded certificates by Prince Edward. The certificate shows a year of hard work volunteering, learning a new skill, staying physically fit, going on a four day expedition and attending a residential camp. Gaining the highest level of the country’s leading award for young people is no mean feat and the four should rightfully be proud of their achievement.
They join a growing group of young people who have gained awards through the Air Cadets. For more information on the organisation see our website www.1407aircadets.org
