Butterwick Hospice is extending a warm and welcoming invitation to Whitworth Hall Hotel near Spennymoor for their Ladies afternoon tea on Wednesday 3rd August 2016. Doors open at 1.30pm and the event will close at approximately 4.00pm.
The hotel is set in the heart of a 73 acre deer park. The parkland setting is home to a herd of fallow deer, an ornamental lake and historical gardens and is Grade 1 listed. The hotel is the former home of ‘Bonny Bobby Shafto’ an 18th century member of parliament mentioned in an English folk song very familiar to North East children even to this day.
Upon arrival you are invited to enter The Duncombe Suite and browse the arts and crafts, ladies fashions and sample the delights from our local cheese stall “Leaside Cheese“.
Guest speakers will enlighten you with the history of the hotel and ballad and poem of Bonnie Bobby Shafto, and his wife Anne Duncombe. Shafto died in 1797 and is buried in the Shafto family crypt beneath the floor of Whitworth church.
Guests are invited to indulge in the true English tradition of afternoon tea, with a selection of sandwiches, and a tiered cake stand which will hold a selection of plain and fruit scones accompanied with fresh preserves and clotted cream, as well as a selection of tempting delicate and dainty hand crafted cakes with a choice of traditional English teas or fine roasted coffee.
To book places for afternoon tea, please telephone Butterwick Hospice / Mon-Fri 9.30am-4.00pm with Lynn Albury on 01388 603003 and pay by debit/credit card.
The cost is £21 per person and includes a sumptuous afternoon tea; special dietary requirements will be catered for. May we urge you to book early to avoid disappointment.
