Successful residents association ACORN will be holding their monthly meeting at the Royal British Legion club on February 13th starting with little ACORNS at 5.30pm and the main ACORN meeting at 6pm.
With a packed itinerary of events to plan, little ACORNS the junior section, will be kept busy throughout the year. ACORN have been able to secure funding from the Big Lottery Fund to put on events in the community throughout 2014.
If you or your children would like to be involved in this planning please come along, little ACORNS meetings begin at 5.30pm and last till approximately 6pm when the main ACORN event starts. Children are welcome to remain but must behave whilst adults are speaking.
High on the list of activities planned will be events which promote some physical activity and community events aimed at bringing the whole community together for fun and games.
Due mainly to the efforts of our events coordinator Leanne Robinson and Vice Treasurer Christine Thompson, The trip to the South Lakes Zoo announced at the January meeting was oversubscribed within 24 hours and a second bus was fully booked within a week. Thanks to our friends at J&C Coaches for their help and advice.
Speaker for the February meeting will be Susan Tron representing the North East Autism Centre who are wanting to open up some of their facilities to local groups. With an underused sports hall and swimming pool it is hoped that revenue can be raised to support the centre.
With Easter just around the corner plans are progressing to return the highly popular Petting Zoo to the Leisure Centre and if you have an organisation which you would like to promote at the event we would love to hear from you. The object of the Petting Zoo is to educate and entertain children and adults whilst bringing a range of animals to a local venue.
As usual police and Councillors will be present to answer queries and support the group so why not pop along, get involved or just have a coffee and listen to the conversation. Although ACORN does have a boundary we welcome anyone interested in the welfare of our wonderful town.
Unfortunately livin are no longer able to send a representative every month due to reorganisation of staff, but we will have someone bi-monthly.
