Popular community group ACORN are thrilled to announce that they have finally received a defibrillator to take along on their bus trips. It has long been the ambition of the group to own a portable defibrillator as they often carry elderly residents on journeys which may be many miles from a hospital.
Members, and residents, of Newton Aycliffe have been raising funds by Domino cards, tombola’s and personal donations for a couple of years and recently were able to consider acquiring one, however Covid 19 and a shortage of microchips put back our plans.
A chance came along when Mayor Ken Robson was invited to talk to Rotary Club members at a breakfast meeting and Ken was informed that not only could Rotary help with supplying a unit but they could offer a 10 year extended warranty.
Cllr Ken Robson gratefully received the unit from Rotary Community Chair Tony Jackson at a short handing over ceremony at the Phoenix Club Newton Aycliffe which is base for ACORN who hold their meetings in the club on the second Thursday of each month at 6pm in the upstairs lounge. Accompanying Ken, who is this year Mayor of Great Aycliffe, were members of little ACORNS which is the junior section of the group and who meet at 5.30 pm.
Many thanks to Tony and his team at Rotary and special thanks to all who have supported this project over the years.
Ken Robson
