ACORN Residents held their most successful funday to date on Friday 15th August.  Funded by Big Lottery Awards For All Fund. K & L Pony Therapy provided residents with ponies to pet and ride around the green and allowed the kids to lead the miniature horses, under supervision, around the grassy area.
The Farmyard Flyer attracted adults and children alike onto their double decker bus bursting with enthusiasm to pet, hold or stare at the farm animals on board. These included Patricia the pig, two goats called Harry and Heidi; Wobble the lamb, Terry the Turkey, a pair of Chinchillas and a variety of chickens and rabbits. Many children’s eyes were agog at the animals with many never ever having seen some species before. What a marvellous introduction with staff on hand to answer any questions the children asked.
With an inflatable pirate ship from Fun n Bounce, an inflatable slide and small children’s bouncy castle from ST Bouncy Castles to work off any excess energy you would think that kids were well catered for when along came two roundabout rides supplied by Robert Pounder Merry Go Rounds.
ACORN favourite the ever popular Harry Potty supplied music, balloons and face painting whilst resident Sarah painted fingernails (Ken looked lovely with his boyish blue nails!) and daughter Megan gave a demonstration of loom band making. Volunteer resident Lesley was kept busy drawing body art on arms and her son Bradley supplied us with the chance to win on the lollipop game. Meanwhile, Daryl kept children supplied with Haribo prizes from his Hook a Duck stall. To balance out the sweets children were consuming local dentists Burgess and Hyder sent along healthy molar packs to encourage the children to look after their teeth. The packs included free tooth brush, toothpaste and an oral care leaflet. So great were the prizes on offer from the Tombola that every item was gone in a couple of hours; Proceeds will be split between club funds and GACAP.
An audible gasp went around the assembled crowd when our local fire service turned up with a gleaming engine for people to look around. Local children were interested to see the fire tender and chat to the Firemen. After socialising with our friendly PCSO’s who brought their van to lock up naughty citizens. Great laughter and hilarity was aimed at mascots Sid the Squirrel and Spotty Dog as our Neighbourhood police team shut them in the police van for being very very naughty. Of course they had to be released for photo opportunities with residents big and small.
Many thanks to all of the volunteers who rallied round to make our funday a delight for everyone including the young ladies from livin; Tracey and Karen who volunteered their time to help. Cheers everyone we couldn’t do it without you.
