ACORN Residents Association pulled out all the stop to make their fun day on the green event the best ever. Five years after the popular group formed, enthusiasm hasn’t waned. Volunteers put lots of time and effort into sprucing up the green with planters displaying colourful floral backgrounds to the event. Even our beautiful trees were adorned with flowers planted at the base of them. Our local police beat team brought a little unexpected fun to the occasion by manning the stocks and being pelted with wet sponges in aid of charity. Meanwhile Bobby the Bull was being a very mischievous mascot mingling and entertaining everyone he met. Professor Nincompoop drew peels of joyous mirth from a crowd of excited children making up an audience on a large tarpaulin while watching a magic show. Meanwhile the antics of the very colourful Dot and Zooky intrigued kids with their Circus tricks which enthralled parents and children alike. Harry Potty was painting gleeful faces throughout the day, working his way determinedly along a queue which never seemed to end. A variety of fairground rides, trampoline, bouncy castle and a large slide were provided by our friend Roberts merry-go-rounds who have become a stable fixture at ACORN events. Officers from our fire and rescue service were on hand with an appliance which became a centre of attraction. ACORN volunteers raised funds throughout the day with a bric-a-brac stall and Tombola which will help to replace flowers on the green, add to ACORN funding and be donated to charity. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all and I would like to thank everyone for their help and support. See you all at our second fun day on 19th August
