Local residents group ACORN held their November meeting on Thursday 13th November at the British Legion Club.
Commencing with a well-attended meeting of the junior group little ACORNS, discussing events and trips over the festive season. Also in attendance were guests representing livin and GATC Neighbourhood Plan. Full marks for Angela Corner Neighbourhood Plan Officer for seeking the children’s views on the future of our town.
Youth coordinator Keith Lovejoy announced trips to an Aycliffe Football match and free tickets to the Nemesis Cheerleaders Show at Greenfield School.
ACORN Chairman Ken Robson opened the main meeting and introduced Angela Corner to the assembled members opening up a debate on a possible future out-of-town retail outlet which certainly gave the subject a good airing as pros and cons were considered.
Local PCSO Chris Noble followed with a report on neighbourhood crime, humour is a popular aspect of Chris’s presentation along with the more serious aspects.
Attended by livin representatives the meetings are a popular way of addressing local issues in a friendly and comfortable environment.
County Councillor Kate Hopper was in attendance to represent the views of the County and offer support and advice to those who need it. Also in attendance were local West Ward Councillors George Gray, Arun Chandran and Dan Summers who between them bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the group.
The ACORN meetings are characterised by the friendly open group atmosphere and a  warm welcome to anyone with an interest in our great town to come along. Speakers are particularly welcomed from other local groups, or residents who need advice.
