For Woodham’s Year 9 in September, a new challenge awaits. For several years now, the school has offered its students the chance to study GCSE options a full year earlier than most schools. It has, in part, been one of the reasons for Woodham gaining more A and A* grades in recent times.
It is probably not surprising, given the future prospects for the town and region alongside the success of existing businesses, that Engineering has enjoyed its highest ever uptake.
Two groups will follow a joint programme developed by the schools Design and Technology department and South West Durham Training, a long-standing partner of Woodham.
After the huge success of BTEC Business Studies programmes over recent years, Woodham has introduced a new 3-year GCSE Business Studies course.
Deputy Headteacher Ian Bickerdike said, “The students have set about choosing their subjects in a mature, informed way.  It is no surprise that they recognise the importance of these subjects as part of their progression towards securing relevant careers.”
