Dear Sir,
I seem to have rattled someone’s cage with my letter about not getting value for money from some Town Councillors, well it seems I am not the only one who agrees that a few Councillors take the allowance and do not attend all meetings.
It has also been featured by the Northern Echo and the reporter, Lizzie Anderson, interviewed other Councillors who said if they can’t attend meetings, why do they seek election.
Is this Labour run Town Council trying to make it a dictatorship? I was under the impression the general public could ask for information on how our rates are being spent.
It is not long ago a Labour Councillor wrote in the Newton News about independent Councillor’s not attending meetings, so what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
I know Paul Kjenstad lives in Darlington but as I told him when I spoke to him in Tesco, I can’t see how he can serve his Ward properly being so far away.
My husband was a good Councillor and attended all the meetings – at first not receiving the allowance, but he decided not to stand again, but if he had it would to be elected, not selected.
No, Paul Kjenstad, it’s not sour grapes it’s value for money and the people want full attendances from Councillors to receive the full allowance.
Mrs M. Tomlin
