Byerley Park Primary School are celebrating the success of their in-house catering and congratulating their kitchen team on a job well done!

The school decided to bring their catering in-house last year, in order to improve the quality and standard of meals for the children.

Head Teacher, Mrs Gargan said, “As a school, we know how important it is that our children are served healthy, nutritious and good value meals. Our kitchen team have worked extremely hard to achieve this and this has paid off, with a very successful first year.”

The School also has a SNAG group (School, Nutrition Action Group) where pupils regularly meet with kitchen staff to discuss menus, recipes and future ideas. Comments from the SNAG pupils include, “We really enjoy our school meals and love it that the kitchen staff listen to our views on what we like to eat and change our menus to make us happy.”

The kitchen run a rolling 3 week menu and regularly theme the dishes to coincide with events or special occasions. When pupils go out on school trips, children get to choose what they would like to include in their packed lunches, ranging from bread, baguettes and wraps with a variety of fillings.
