Five Acres hosted our very own Platinum Jubilee Party at ROF 59 last week, a fitting venue for this prestigious event. We were absolutely delighted that the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dame Della Smith was in attendance as the Queen’s representative.
Other guests included Newton Aycliffe’s Mayor Ken Robson and his Consort Elaine, Cllr David Sutton Lloyd and Cllr Neville Jones, Men Talking Together, The President of SSAFA Mike Donne and his Partner Ruth Wright as well as Ex Service Men and Women from SSAFA who reside in County Durham.
Durham’s local Re-enactment Teams came along too with Vintage Army vehicles and weapons plus Iris from the WVS and Alan who demonstrated Morse Code. We were entertained with ‘Songs from the War’ by the wonderful Georgia Lee.
120 school children from Victoria Lane Primary School were also involved and thoroughly enjoyed the day – mixing with the Army Veterans, our Five Acre Champions and the local Community.
Five Acres provided a hot lunch of wartime ‘mince and dumplings’ and an alternative cold buffet, lots of cake and Mr Whippy ice cream for afters!
Special thanks to Shirley at Tescos for the contribution to the Raffle, to Paige from The Teesside Cocktail Co for coming along to supply us with ‘Mocktails’. Thanks also to Don Walker Butchers and our fabulous volunteers – Viv Iceton and Nick & Angie Ward.
The Management and Staff at Five Acres would like to thank everyone for their continued support and for making this Community Event possible.
