Rockingham Motor Speedway played host to rounds 13 and 14 of the Renault UK Clio Cup, Scorton’s Max Coates continued to provide the action with coverage live from his car on ITV4. Coates qualified his Primex Plastics and PLASgran Recycling car 5th for both races, however started the first from 4th due to a penalty for another driver. The Ciceley Motorsports car battled to stay in fourth position before making inroads on the battle for 2nd and 3rd place.  Unfortunately a racing incident on the final lap forced Max into a spin, he crossed the line in 8th. The second race was beamed live on ITV4 and Max fell back to 6th at the start.  The safety car came out at the end of the first lap to allow a car that had rolled to be recovered.  On the restart the BRDC Rising Star moved through to 5th with a decisive overtake at turn two.  He then chased down the battle for the final podium spot before passing for 4th and then 3rd in a lap long overtake with the championship leader.  He managed to make it through and pulled away to take 3rd spot on the podium and another graduate cup win for younger drivers new to the championship. Max remains 3rd in the championship until the series dropped score rule is applied (each driver doesn’t count their two worst scores in the final championship points), however he lies just a handful of points behind multiple Clio Cup champion Paul Rivett.  The next round of the championship takes place at Silverstone on the 17th and 18th September.
