Woodham Academy has been awarded £370,000 in capital funding following a successful bid to the Department for Education. The funding is available to help schools with refurbishment costs and will finance necessary electrical improvements, providing improved lighting in classrooms and other areas. Woodham has attracted significant backing in recent years and brings the total awarded to the school to almost £2.5M. The school has also invested money in 4 state of the art science laboratories and sports facilities to improve learning environments. Further significant works are planned over the summer to improve a further science laboratory as well as dining and toilet areas as the school prepares to welcome a new intake of students. The allocation is over and above the normal grants used to pay for the day to day running of the school. Headteacher Mrs Christine Forsyth commented, “Woodham is committed to providing not only the best teaching possible but also the best learning environment and this funding will contribute to that”.
