On 17 January 1993, Marian Dawson started her first day as Lollipop Lady for Sugar Hill Primary School. 25 years, and thousands of safe crossings later, Marian is still happily working and enjoying her job of keeping children (and their parents) safe as they cross the busy roads near the school.

Marian said: “I love my job and I have no plans to retire. I am now helping children to cross the road just like I did with their Mams and Dads many years ago.

Some of the children call me ‘Grandma Lollipop’ and I still shed a tear when the Year 6 children leave to go to comprehensive school. My uniform has changed a bit over the years – I remember the white plastic mac I wore – but I still enjoy my job and I love to help the children”.

Children in the school made cards for Marian to help her celebrate her milestone, and the staff and children at Sugar Hill want to wish her all the best for many more years to come!

25 Years Service as Lollipop Lady

Marian Dawson, the lollipop lady at Sugar Hill School is celebrating her 25 years making sure children and their family cross the toad safely.

She’s always happy and smiling and all the students who cross with her and even people walking by love her as she talks to everyone.

Motorists always get a friendly wave as she goes about her work.

Marian gets gifts of sweets at Christmas and wraps them up and gives them back to the children.
