Dear Sir,
I read with interest John Snowball’s letter regarding speeding outside Vane Road School and the Council wishing to introduce a 20mph outside all schools.
To some point I agree with Mr. Snowball, when the parents / guardians are parked up or are trying to find space to park, legally and in some cases illegally. Speeding on Vane Road is impossible, but this is only between 8:50 & 9:05am and 3pm & 3:20pm, the remainder of the time and on Central Avenue speeding is constant. The average speed on Central Avenue, where the children cross, going to and from Vane Road School and Woodham Academy is in the region of 40mph.
In the last two years one pupil  was knocked down on his way home and this year a Vane Road School child accompanied by her elder sister were almost hit by a car whilst crossing the road. Both happened well after the school crossing patrol (lollypop man) had finished his duty. Does Mr. Snowball still think it would be a waste of time and money to reduce the speed limit to 20mph?
A concerned resident.
