Congratulations to Adele Upex the winner of the £1000 Madathlon Annual Raffle and thanks to the Cobblers Hall Public House for their continued support.
Madathlon was established in 2013 in memory of my daughter Claire, to raise funds to supply equipment not normally provided by the statutory authorities, in year 1 Madathlon raised £11,000 to buy a Criticool machine for the James Cook ICU where Claire passed away very suddenly from a brain tumour in December 2012.  Last year saw the Madathlon team of family & friends raise £15,000 to buy 2 new motorbikes for the Northumbria Blood Bikes.
This year we have set ourselves the challenge to provide Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) to businesses, schools and sports clubs in the local area.  Our target is to buy at least one machine per month.
The machines are the only treatment for sudden cardiac arrest, which takes the lives of 250 people per day in the UK.  Chances of survival increase from 5% to 70% if treatment can be reached within 3 minutes, many more deaths can be prevented by providing these lifesaving machines and installing them for local and community use.
The AED’s we will be providing can be used to treat the very young as well as adults, and can be operated by primary school children. They even talk you through the process, and can not be used to shock anyone who does not need it.
We are always looking for sponsorship and volunteers to get involved in fundraising events; you can contact us at Madathlon@hotmail.com and via facebook.
