Lynn Oliver, a member of the Bishop Auckland Fundraising Group of Marie Curie, was overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment of 8 year old Zak when she popped in to leave a Marie Curie collecting tin at The Dairy Barn at North Bitchburn near Bishop Auckland.

Zak, whose mother has just opened a delightful coffee shop on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland, near the Kynren site, on learning of the work of Marie Curie Nurses, was inspired to write to the Newcastle office to say he intended to donate 50p of his pocket money every week to this “wonderful charity” (Zak’s own words).

Area Organiser, Hayley Revell, was delighted that a child as young as Zak could be moved to volunteer his pocket money

to support the work of Marie Curie Nurses that she popped out to The Dairy Barn to thank Zak in person – and to enjoy a delicious slice of cake with her coffee!

The Bishop Auckland Group of Marie Curie has raised over £70,000 since its inception in January 2014. It meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 1.30pm in the Community Fire Station on Watling Road. New members are always welcome.
