The season is well underway and all of our teams are enjoying the games coming thick and fast.

Bishop Auckland Women 0 – 6 Newton Aycliffe Women

Today the women travelled the short distance to face Bishop for the third time this season, the women needed a good result after last week’s defeat. With only 12 players for today’s match and one of them with an injury everyone had the instruction to let the ball do the work. Aycliffe won the toss and opted to swap ends playing into the wind in the first half, straight from the kick off Aycliffe were on the attack, the ball fell to Katie in the box who calmly slotted the ball past the goal keeper 0-1. Then 6 minutes later Katie got her second 0-2. The midfield 5 of Lottie, Lucy, Amber, Matilda and Helen were working well creating chances for the front two of Katie and Naomi. Then in the 13th minute the ball broke for Lottie on the left, she took her chance well, leaving the keeper with no chance, 0-3. Bishop then started to get a foot hold in the game but the back 3, Hallie, Molly and Martha, were equal to everything making Courtney’s job in goal very easy. Half time 0-3.

Second half one change with Nicole going on for Helen and a formation of 4-4-2. It took a while for the women to get going in the second half but on the 50th minute a great ball into Naomi who struck the ball on the volley leaving the keeper no chance, 0-4. Matilda and Lottie switched wings to counter the threat from Bishop, this paid off on the 77th minute a great through ball to Matilda saw her clean through on goal, she took her chance well beating the keeper at the near post, 0-5. Bishop still weren’t giving up but the defence and keeper weren’t going to give up their clean sheet. Then on the 86th minute a cross in the Bishop box and one of their players handled the ball, ref blew for a penalty. Katie stepped up she had already missed one penalty this season but not this time, bottom left corner, 0-6. Final whistle went not long after, great game, great result.
