Sugar Hill Primary have recently appointed a pupil ambassador for Young Carers. The Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs Legge, leads Young Carers in school and is justifiably proud that the school has recently received re-accreditation to the Young Carers Charter for the second time.
Tyler Stacey, a Year 4 pupil, is a Young Carer. Tyler helps to care for his sister Kaitlyn who attends Evergreen Primary in Bishop Auckland. Tyler loves to help care for his sister and has a really good understanding of how he can support other Young Carers. Tyler was keen to take on this role and designed a poster with the help of his mam to promote Young Carers at Sugar Hill. It is hoped that children will find emotional support from Tyler and that they feel they can share experiences with him knowing he understands the responsibilities being a Young Carer can have on young people. Mrs Legge commented, “I am immensely proud of Tyler. He is a very positive young man with a fantastic outlook on life. He loves to help and support others. Tyler has a keen sense of humour and loves to share a joke. He will be a fantastic ambassador for Young Carers. This is a role Tyler will fulfil throughout his time as a Sugar Hill pupil and I am delighted that Tyler shows such a keen interest in supporting other Young Carers at Sugar Hill Primary”.
