Over the summer, three Woodham Academy students embarked on an opportunity of a lifetime, spending three weeks on an American summer camp.  They stayed at Camp Cody, on the shores of Lake Ossipee, in New Hampshire, USA.  Here they volunteered their time to help coach young campers from all across America, as well as experiencing some real American culture!
Students were asked to apply for the positions to go to Camp Cody, completing a formal application and attending an interview.  The successful candidates then embark on a training programme to teach them new skills and help assist them whilst out in America.  This is the 6th consecutive year that Woodham Academy has sent students over to Camp Cody.
The students quickly found themselves immersed in camp life within a few hours of being on site, working with their fellow ‘Counsellors in Training’ and experienced Counsellors to assist in delivering high quality sports coaching sessions as well as helping with campers at night time.
Danny Ketch, who led the trip to Camp Cody, commented, “Our students have been fantastic at Camp, they have make a great impression on the staff at Cody, their peers and more importantly the children that they helped.  We are very proud of how well they represented the school and themselves.”
The group finished their three weeks in America with an afternoon in Boston, seeing the sites and squeezing in a bit of last minute shopping!
Although it was difficult for students to leave their ‘Cody family’ behind, they all hope to return next summer.
