Woodham Academy hosted their annual Dance Showcase on Thursday 30th March to an audience comprised of staff, students and members of the local community. Preparations for the event have spanned over several months. This was evident in the standard of the performances, and the troupe left the audience stunned.

Routines were choreographed by the dancers themselves, Miss Kent (Dance Academy Teacher at Woodham) and Kay Clarey (Joanne Banks Dancers).
Miss Kent, who has orchestrated the show for the past two years, said: ‘Everyone who took part in the Dance Academy and performed in the Dance Showcase is fabulous and they have made me so proud. I am overwhelmed by their efforts and how exceptionally well they have represented Woodham Academy’.

The performance showcased the diversity of the dancers’ talents and included routines from a variety of disciplines including Classical, Contemporary, Freestyle and Commercial. Every piece was captivating and warranted the tumultuous applause offered by the spectators. The whole show was a spectacle from the solo acts to the opening and finale involving all the members of the Dance Academy. The atmosphere was electric throughout.

For four students the performance was bittersweet, as it was their last at Woodham Academy. Year eleven students, Charlotte Lough, Caitlin Overfield, Lisa Robinson and Lauren Towell, have been committed members of the Dance Academy for five years. In addition to being outstanding dancers, the girls have also been unwavering in their dedication to their academic progress. We wish them every success in their next stage of education.
