Aycliffe Angels Joan Davies (89) and Vera Stobbs (91) were Guests of Honour at the Open Day last week of the new leisure facility “ROF 59” on Durham Way, Aycliffe Business Park.
This remarkable £1.1m amenity was a former ammunition factory in the second World War and was bought by Finleys Steel of Aycliffe to provide this exciting themed centre for recreation, dining and social activity for all ages.
It houses the largest and highest climbing provision in the country and will attract everyone from beginners to experienced rock climbers who will hone their skills at Aycliffe
Undoubtedly the young people of the town will also make good use of this indoor climbing centre for fun. ROF 59 is an ongoing project and in the coming weeks will open trampolining and other activities in the 65,000 square foot premises.
The Blitz Restaurant is already attracting regular clientele with its high quality food obtainable at very reasonable prices served by top chef Arturas Lapinskas
formerly of Rockliffe Hall.
The Bunker Bar is tastefully designed and will complement the restaurant and provide a good night out for anyone seeking something a bit different from the norm.
Joan and Vera had a great time as the centre of attention, photographed and interviewed for radio and television.
