Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club celebrated their 40th Anniversary last Saturday at the Woodham Golf Club where they hold their weekly meetings. The guests were welcomed by President Tony Robinson and the compere was Don Walker. The club first met at the upstairs room in the Oak Tree Inn at Neville Parade (now demolished). One of the founder members, Geoff Batchelor, gave a speech recalling highlights of the 40 years. Other founder and past members were present at the Dinner which included our Mayor and Consort, Wendy and Jed Hillary. The North East Governor attended along with other distinguished Rotary guests. After the formalities there was period of dancing to the music of DJ John Melvin finishing off an enjoyable evening.
