Dear Sir,
The finest memorial the nation can give to the memory of the fallen of two world wars is the creation of a society for principled living and trading.
To date, politicians have been unable or unwilling to create such a society.
It, therefore, falls to the teachers of the next generation to include the following trinity in the school curriculum:
1 – Animal welfare to be a core subject. Kindness to animals has a way of making kinder people.
2 – An understanding of, and a commitment to, the golden rule, as inaugurated in the Sermon on the Mount: to do unto others as you would have done to you, if the situation was reversed. And to have an understanding of the Immutable Laws (reference: Ralph Waldo Emerson) that back the golden rule, and the mutual benefits to both the giver and the receiver.
3 – For teachers to start and encourage a savings bank in every school, so that pupils will cultivate the habit of saving (the mount is not important). Pupils would be issued with a savings book as opposed to viewing something online and, through the cultivation of this new habit, may well avoid, as they move into adulthood, the penalty of incurring thousands of pounds of debt.
