Woodham Academy was given the amazing opportunity to be a part of a professional women’s netball game at Northumbria University. Students from the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 10 netball teams were invited to attend the netball tournament to watch and be a part of the celebrations. The students were transported to Northumbria University’s Sport Central campus in Newcastle City centre, where they were given a full tour of the new facilities.

They were given opportunities to ask questions, find out where the team trained and recovered and also what was accessible to university students.  During the tour, they got to meet an injured player and the team’s personal trainer; they were even shown the media balcony and met the performance analysis team. After the tour Woodham were shown to their front row seats and the Year 7 and Year 8 students were briefed about being mascots. It was an amazing experience to lead Team Northumbria out, be involved with the team chant and also play with them during half time.

The students got to see a full game of professional netball where Team Northumbria competed against Bath Netball team. The quick pace, tactical play and atmosphere really inspired the students who left the University buzzing! The students were exceptionally well behaved, and were a true representation of Woodham Academy.
