On Thursday 6th April, representatives from Spectrum (North East) Roller Skating Club attended The High Sheriff Awards Evening and were proud to receive a cheque for £1000 at Bowes Museum. It was an idyllic picturesque setting for a wonderful occasion.
The event held in conjunction with County Durham Community Foundation and Sir James Knott Trust welcomed 8 community groups who were shortlisted from their applications. It was humbling to hear of all the fantastic work which goes on in our communities, making a difference to lives around the county.
Skaters, Hannah Godwin (10), Lucy Richardson (10) and Niamh Dawson (11)  alongside coach Tracy Stevens represented the club. The Spectrum Roller Skating Club were awarded £1000 which will enable the club to grow and develop.
The group provides somewhere for young people to socialise safely and take part in physical activity.  Alongside the physical benefits from sport the club supports social activities and inclusion.
“I hope the money will allow us to create opportunities for our skaters, keep costs to a minimum and ultimately tackle disadvantage and exclusion. “ Tracy Stevens
Pete Barron an excellent host for the evening interviewed the club and asked the children if he could roll along to one of our sessions? He was surprised when Hannah (10) remarked yes but she would recommend bubble-wrap!
It certainly got a giggle and she was deemed star of the evening! It was a memorable night and a wonderful experience for the skaters to cherish.
