Over the past twelve months, the Science Department at Woodham Academy has been involved in a number of new initiatives to excite students about Science.
After the successful trial project carried out last year, several groups of pupils from Heighington and Bishopton Primary schools have been coming to Woodham Academy to carry out some of their Science lessons.  Every week staff from Woodham Academy have been pushing the pupils to achieve level 6+ in Science through a series of practical investigations designed to challenge all. The pupils have carried out investigations on forces and movement and are currently looking at chemical reactions. The scheme has been very successful with over 60% of pupils attending the sessions achieving a level 6.  This is the highest level awarded at this age
Woodham Sparkies Science Club has been working hard all year round, exploring the delights of secondary science and all it has to offer. As a result, Woodham Science Department is holding its first Primary Science Awards evening to celebrate those students who have attended and taken part in the sessions. Taking place on the 1st July, students will be presented with certificates followed by refreshments. To end the celebration evening, parents and students will take part in challenges, including the parents vs student rocket race. We look forward to welcoming more students in September onto this programme.
Following this year’s Woodham Sparkies presentation evening is an opportunity for all parents to come along and try their hands at some real Science. On Wednesday 1st July from 6.00pm onwards you are invited to come and have a go at some secondary school science. There will be opportunities to have a look at some behavioural science involving creepy crawlies as well as our annual rocket challenge. The evening is for both parents and children and all are invited
