Santa Claus turned up three days late when he visited Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club’s family Christmas party – not that the youngsters minded at all. He still remembered to bring a sackful of toys which he shared with each and every one of them.

Later, in an exclusive interview with Newton News, Santa explained that the delay was caused by the reindeer having a very long sleep after their hectic delivery schedule on Christmas Eve.

Santa, whose smiling face reminded several people of Rtn. Roger Curtis, made his annual visit to the County Restaurant at Aycliffe Village on Thursday and chatted with children, their parents and staff at the restaurant before dashing off to make other promised deliveries.

He is pictured with Immediate Past President of the Club, Rtn. Nora Scott, and members of the Scott family – Callum, Iona and Evoline.

Santa got a special thank-you from Rtn. Malcolm Masterman who also praised Colette and staff at the County for their hard work and friendly service. This year’s raffle was arranged by Nora and David Scott with Rtn. Roger Curtis as M.C.
