Dear Sir,

I love living in Newton Aycliffe, but how sad it is to have to admit that I now must go to Darlington for my weekly grocery shopping.

I would prefer to shop in Newton Aycliffe, but recently so much of what I buy regularly is now not sold by Tesco: uncut malted grain bread, ground rice, McDougal’s sponge flour, goats milk, goats butter, Imperial leather talc and today added to that list was “pickling vinegar”, all now not stocked by Tesco, Newton Aycliffe. What is happening?

When I ask staff in store they merely agree with me saying, “there are a number of items which we used to sell, but now we don’t stock them any more, it’s a management decision.”

Wherever possible I try to shop locally but I’m afraid that in the case of supermarket shopping this is now not an option.

However, thank goodness for a good fruit and vegetable shop and a great butcher in The Thames Centre.

Come on Tesco – get your act together and give people what they want instead of trying to become yet another cut price limited choice store.
