Newtonian Glenn Fletcher has returned home to take over The George Hotel in Piercebridge. He grew up in Newton Aycliffe and as a youngster worked for his mother Bea in her restaurant above the British Legion and was a trainee for Slater and Sons Butchers in the Thames Centre. He then went on to work in some of the best hotels in the UK, Gleneagles, Rookery Hall Hotel and Crathorne Hall Hotel. He learned from some of the best in the business like Tom Kitchin.

Taking over the George in Piercebridge was an opportunity to come back home to Newton Aycliffe. Glenn attended Woodham Juniors and Woodham Comprehensive. His brothers and sisters all live on the town and his daughter is following in her Dad’s footsteps by starting school at Woodham Infant School in September.   Glenn said: “I can remember The George from years gone by and once visited the hotel and saw the river running through the grounds with its own island and could see the potential for a great wedding venue. I am so proud to have taken over this prestigious hotel” Anyone from the local area who would like help with fundraising nights please contact Glenn and his team as they believe the hotel is a great venue. Why not try the Carvery which they have re-launched for Sunday lunches. Tel: 01325 374576 E mail: GM@thegeorgehotelpiercebridge.com
