Well known Aycliffe Sign Language expert and teacher, Margaret Bain, has opened the “Aviator Cafe” at Fishburn Airfield, an unlicensed grass flying strip, close to Sedgefield – Post Code DL17 9DY Margaret has been seeking a Co. Durham venue where deaf people can meet and socialise, and this venture will be used for that purpose, but also for the general public and airfield club members.The café is open every day 9.30am – 4pm serving hot beverages, Panini’s and freshly made sandwiches. This week a Burns Night, was held with an entertainer, and other events are being organised throughout the year.

Margaret has worked in catering over a number of years, managing and coordinating events such as weddings  etc. She also works at Woodham Golf Club Restaurant. She has 2 grown up children Christopher and Katie. Margaret is educated up to Degree level in British Sign Language and is a communicator  and interpreter for deaf students at New College, Durham. Other interests are going to the gym, walking the dog, and organising functions. Visitors are welcome and the Airfield can be found along the A177 taking the first turning right after the Bishop Middleham  left turn. The right turn takes you up a narrow farm road which is also the entrance to the local Clay Pigeon Shooting Club.
