At a packed meeting of the Town Council on Wednesday night over 50 members of the public attended to address the Annual Parish meeting of Great Aycliffe Town Council. The Town Council at it’s Policy and Resources meeting on 16th April, had decided not to renew it’s licensing of the Pavillion at St. Oswald’s Park to the Mental Health Charity MIND. This was a precursor to the Council undertaking large scale re-development of the St. Oswalds Park, as part of a local improvement programme jointly funded by the Borough and Town Councils.

The meeting was addressed by Chris Wheeler on behalf of MIND, and in effect asked the Council to refer its decision back to the Policy and Resources Committee for reconsideration, he also asked that both Labour and Independents vote on the issue when it comes before them on a free vote and asked that Councillors are fully briefed and informed before making a decision.
