D (Rifles) Coy Fifth Fusiliers recently hosted the Bishop Auckland College Uniformed Public Services end of course presentation. This marked the end of a year of D (Rifles) Coy FIFTH FUSILIERS affiliation with the College which will be continued for a number of years to come.
The affiliation has seen students participate in exercises run by D(Rifles)Coy at the college and also located at the Army Reserve Centre. The students have carried out Light Drill, Command and Control exercises, rifle drills and communications training. On top of that they have undertaken assault courses where they competed against Pontefract College and won!
Course students from Aycliffe were thrilled to be at the Army Reserve Centre, where some of them will train, having applied to join the reserve unit.
Katy Graham –Learning Area Manager for Uniformed Public Services at the College said: “It’s been fantastic to work with the company and everyone at Fifth Fusiliers as the students gained so much from the affiliation in military awareness, training, leadership and employment as some students have joined the reserves.”
Capt Jan McNab the Permanent Staff and Admin Officer at D (Rifles) Coy said: “This has been great and it’s fantastic to host the awards ceremony as we are in the heart of the community working with young people and helping them develop into the UK’s future leaders, managers and in some cases soldiers
