The Chairman and Committee of Horndale Residents’ Association breathed a sigh of relief as sunny weather appeared for their Family Fun Day on Greenfield College field last Thursday. It was brilliant display with evidence that a lot of hard work had been put into the organisation of this event. There was so much to do and see, with free admission to everyone. The day was supported by the Police, Fire Service, Army and rides on the TV series, old “Edensfield – Heartbeat” bus were run by Aycliffe Bus Preservation Society. Among the fundraising stalls was face-painting with music and entertainment by Professor Nincompoop. Hot food was available and Mr. Whippy ice creams. Children enjoyed interacting with the police, firemen and army personnel while also enjoying petting animals and having pony rides. The officers and committee of HRA are to be commended for their efforts in providing a very enjoyable day with proceeds of £420 donated to the MRI Scanner Appeal which was a fantastic result from a free community event.

Community Fun Day A Great Success

Horndale Residents Association fun day last Thursday was a tremendous success, we said we would be happy with having 200 people attend but the day far exceeded this with between 450 and 500 people enjoying the rides, Petting Zoo, Crazy Critters, Bouncy Castles, Police Interceptors, Fire Brigade and much more. With the kind generosity of those attending and the stall holders we raised nearly £400 for the MRI Scanner Appeal. More details at a later date. We would like to thank Greenfield Community College, Richard Agar, Acorn Residents Association, Mandy, John and the quizzers from the Bay Horse Middridge also the stall holders and exhibitors for supporting our event. Lastly I would like to thank the committee and volunteers for their work before the day and their work on the day, we started at 8.00am and finished at 4.30pm The lasting thing from the day was the impression outsiders got was the fantastic community spirit we have in Newton Aycliffe, with some of the exhibitors saying they attend lots of events and haven’t seen such a great community coming together.
