I am sure that Lily and Natalie had a SUPER Christmas judging from the amount of Christmas wrapping paper and toy boxes I picked up on Sunday 31st December blowing freely down the road leading from Heighington roundabout to Heighington Station.

The Christmas greeting labels addressed to Lily and Natalie were found attached to some of the wrapping paper together with an envelope addressed to Natalie. There was a black plastic untied sack dumped with loads and loads of pretty paper that must have been left on the grass verge, but when spotted stretched for a good 70 – 80 yards – a real mess.

There were toy boxes large and small flattened and saturated by the melting snow strewn along the roadside which had to be squashed hard down into a very large sack that I had in my car.

So Lily and Natalie if you are old enough to read this, please have a word with the grown ups who were so kind to make your Christmas such a lovely time and remind them that it an offence and completely unacceptable for them to fly tip.

They may say they were driving down to Aycliffe recycling depot and found it closed, but tell them this is no excuse to leave their rubbish to litter our beautiful countryside.

If any readers know of anyone with the names Lily, Natalie, Sam and Chippy, please pass this letter to them so they get the message and hopefully they will do the right thing in future by taking their rubbish to the tip and not leaving it on the roadside for others to pick up.

In the meantime as it is the New Year, a time for making resolutions, can you all, irrespective of how young or old, make a resolution NOT to drop litter and NOT to fly tip – let’s keep Co. Durham and Darlington Borough – CLEAN.
