Health Trainers have been working with Rose Lodge Care Home based at Cobblers Hall, Newton Aycliffe to support the residents to increase their physical and social activity to help improve their health and stimulate their minds. Health Trainers have delivered an 8 week wellbeing course with the residents which has included chair exercises, arts and crafts, New Age Kurling, sensory gardening, pot planting, singing and a ‘Build your own beach’ activity. At the end of the 8 weeks the health trainers wanted to give the residents an opportunity to get out and about for the day. So they arranged a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Tynemouth. Donna Kelly, Health Trainer said “The group have worked so well together over the weeks and we’ve seen their health and confidence improve. Everyone had a great time seeing the different sea life creatures and monkeys. We all had lunch in the café and they particularly enjoyed the seal show, where they all got a bit wet! The lovely day was finished off with a sing song and an ice cream on the bus home.”

One of the residents said “I really enjoyed going to the aquarium with the Health Trainers I have also enjoyed our 8 weeks of activity especially the singing and musical instruments.”  Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) deliver this Wellbeing for Life Health Trainer project that focuses on adult social care clients over the age of 65.
