Newton Aycliffe Youth Council have recently announced a new award for young people of Aycliffe recognising their outstanding achievements. The ‘Aycliffe Young Citizen Award’ is an award which rewards “inspirational and exceptional individuals” from the Aycliffe area.

Staff at Greenfield Community College were very proud to learn that the very first winner of the award was Greenfield student Casey Topping, described by the Youth Council as “a remarkable young lady and without doubt an inspiration to all young people of the town”.

Casey was nominated by her Tutor at Greenfield School for not only achieving through adversity but for being “a delightful, trustworthy individual of whom her school and family are rightly very proud”.

Casey has not only to be proud of her academic achievements but is also a keen sportsperson representing the school at netball. She has also been recognised for her support to her family, helping to look after her two younger brothers who are disabled and being a constant support to her mum.

Greenfield Community College are very proud of Casey’s contribution to the school and her resilience and care for her family. During a summer of good news surrounding results and sporting achievements it is lovely to see good citizenship rewarded.

The school are working together with students and families to realise an outstanding learning experience for young people so that they can develop their potential as ambitious, confident self-led learners within a caring environment.
