In the lead up to the Greenfield Community College annual GCSE arts exhibition, running from Thursday 29th June to Wednesday 13th July, Greenfield Arts have been working with year 7 and 8 students to better understand what it is students need from the gallery and the opportunities it offers. The exhibition which will showcase the fantastic work of students studying for GCSEs in Visual Arts at Greenfield Community College – including sculpture, photography and graphics, is a brilliant opportunity for students to see their creative work in a professional gallery environment as well as a chance for staff to highlight their skills and praise their achievements. Year 11 students have also seen this as an opportunity to promote the arts to younger generations and inspire the take up of GCSE art.

They have therefore given themselves the task of curating one final exhibition, offering graduate and aspiring artists a professional space to exhibit, something that is very hard to come by but will open up inspiring opportunities to both artists and the young audience of Greenfield Community College. Year 11 students have also developed a mentor scheme in which they hope for younger years to get involved in the gallery programming in their absence, therefore engaging more classes with the space.

The work produced by the year 7’s and 8’s will therefore inform part of the secondary exhibition curated by Year 11 students, which is open to the public from Monday 17th July – Wednesday 26th July.
