Just 270 minutes of football could see Darlington promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier Division. But, like the majority of Darlington fans, I know its the next ninety minutes that’s important. We currently sit one place, one game and three points behind leaders Salford. However, following our home win over Mossley last weekend, we are now unbeaten in six games and go into this Saturday’s away fixture at Lancaster City in confident mood, though this will be no easy game.
Lancaster are tenth in the league and have no chance of making the play-offs so will be playing for pride against one of the title contenders. Likewise the next opponents, Warrington. Darlington are away in this rearranged fixture to Shaun Reid’s men on Tuesday night and I, like many fans I’ve spoken too, suspect nothing would make the yellows happier than to derail our automatic promotion hopes. This will be a game for calm heads and strong hearts I feel!
Off the pitch the future looks very bright with the council giving us planning permission to groundshare with Darlington Rugby Club at Blackwell Meadows. The plans have changed slightly and the home end will now be to the left of the ground, facing roughly the same way as the old Tin Shed at Feethams. Speaking of the Shed its fantastic to hear that parts of the old stand will be incorporated into the new ground at Blackwell.
The Newton Aycliffe Darlington FC Supporters Group held its first meeting on Wednesday night this week, details will be in next weeks Newton News. Anybody who wishes to be involved in the group or wants to make a contribution but can’t attend the meetings, can you please email us at dfcaycliffefans@outlook.com or follow us on twitter @dfcaycliffefans.
Will it be the play-offs or automatic promotion? We’ll know more this time next week. Keep the faith.
