Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, travelled to Hartlepool 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division and were well beaten by nine wickets. Aycliffe were asked to bat first and were skittled for a paltry 67 all out after 31.1 overs. Chris Palmer (sponsored by Vanila Design and Print) top scored with 14, with Joe Haines (10 runs) and Jack Slatcher (10 runs) the only other batsmen to reach double figures in a very poor display. In reply the home side romped to victory for the loss of one wicket after only 9.4 overs with left arm spin bowler Luke Telford taking the only wicket to fall. The 2nd team lost by five wickets at home to Yarm 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th Division.
Asked to bat first, the homeside scored 118 all out after 26.5 overs thanks to good innings from Dave Richardson (29 runs), Steve Sweeney (25 runs) and Ryan Patrick (sponsored by Durham Business Club) with 18 runs. In reply, Yarm eased to victory after 34.2 overs with James LayfieldCarroll the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers, finishing with the superb figures of 2 for 13 from his 10 overs. The U17’s fought well, but still lost away at Sedgefield by 5 wickets in the NYSD junior league. Asked to bat first Aycliffe were bowled out for 54 after 17.3 overs with only George Slatcher (19 runs) and an excellent innings of 9 not out by 11 year old Leo Mercy making any notable contributions.

In reply, two wickets each for George Slatcher and Ryan Patrick wasn’t enough to save their team as Sedgefield reached their victory target after 12 overs. The U15’s we were beaten away at Wolviston despite a good innings from captain Lucas Pilling, who top scored with 14 runs. The U11’s kept up their good form with their third win in four games beating Wolviston at home by 40 runs. Daniel Heaton was again amongst the wickets taking 2 for 8 and Thomas Dearden top scored in Aycliffe’s innings with an aggressive unbeaten 13 runs.
