Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team, sponsored by Franks The Flooring Store, had their biggest win in the club’s history when they won away Thornaby 2nds by a huge 258 runs in the NYSD 2nd division.

Aycliffe decided to bat first, teenage opener Joe Haines scored a superb career best 68 runs and fellow opener Luke Telford scored 35 as the pair put on 63 for the 1st wicket.

Captain Chris Palmer was also among the runs smashing a quickfire 68 and there was also useful innings from both Graham Telford (31 runs) and Pritpal Grewal (19 runs) as Aycliffe declared on 278 for 9 after 46.3 overs.

The homeside had no answer to some excellent fast bowling from Aycliffe’s Michael Howe, who finished with career best figures of 5 for 15 and Colin Myers, who took 4 wickets for 5 runs.

Thornaby were quickly bowled out for just 20 after 14.5 overs and the defeat condemned them to bottom place in the table and relegation to the 3rd division.

Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team play their final game of the season on Saturday 20th September at home to Wolviston at 1pm

The 2nd team won their final game of the season by default after visitors Northallerton 2nd team conceded as they were unable to raise a team. The 2nd team record for their first season in the NYSD 3rd division reads, played 24 games, won 8, drew 7 and lost 9 earning a highly respectable 257 points to finish in 7th place.
