Dear Editor
The article written by Ken Robson, the Chairman of the Friends of West Park, saddened me. His reference to our environmentally fascist ruling Council elite was totally inappropriate and a public demeaning of our hard working Council Leaders. I therefore request that he makes a sincere public apology for his ill considered remark.
I was at the meeting where Councillor John Clare explained GATC policy regarding the Lakes. This was politely delivered and questions were answered in detail. Unfortunately some present were not intent on listening carefully to the points that he was making.
The letter sent by the Town Clerk to the friends of West Park was both courteous and to the point. It simply stated that no more weed was to be removed from the top lake, following a concern made by the Environment Officer.
The Friends of West Park have a unique opportunity to develop a first class environmental project in partnership with GATC.  This was my motivation for becoming a member.  I am not interested in the debate being solely focused on boats as there is a far bigger picture to be taken into consideration.
The Friends need to refocus on developing a plan that can be agreed by GATC that will enable them to move forward with their project, based on sound environmental advice.
