Bishop Auckland will be transported back to an era of wartime rationing, tea dresses and swing dancing when the Bishop Auckland Town Team hosts its first ever 1940s event.

There will be a selection of Military Vehicles on display along with LIVE performances from The Fenner Sisters. The local Sound Waves Community Choir will join in with some vintage classics and the Sandra Welsh School of Dance will be performing some dance routines.

Nigel Bryson said; “We are always looking at new events to add to our existing events programme which all help to bring footfall into the town centre. We know 1940s events are really popular in places like Barnard Castle and Pickering, and it would be fantastic to recreate that here in Bishop Auckland.”

Lee Brownson added; “Several local businesses around the town are joining in the theme by decorating their shop windows and dressing up in 1940s costume. The public are invited to dress up for the occasion and join us in the Market Place for a trip down memory lane!”

The event is on Saturday 9th June in Bishop Auckland Market Place between 10.00am and 4.00pm, sponsored by the Bishop Auckland Town Council.
