The Beast from the East put paid to any chance of Newton Aycliffe FC getting a game in last week. Two home games were scheduled, Washington on Tuesday and Consett on Saturday. However, both fell victim to the weather. With a blanket of snow covering the Moore Lane pitch & surroundings Saturday’s game was called off on Thursday evening. It wasn’t alone, by the following morning the entire Northern League programme had been wiped out.

Fortunately Aycliffe don’t have a midweek game scheduled for 6 or 7 March, however, by Monday morning several other league games had already been postponed. There have now been over 200 Northern League fixtures postponed this season & all clubs will be hoping that the weather relents soon.

Aycliffe are due to return to action on Saturday 10 March when they visit Stockton Town. With Stockton playing on an artificial surface the game has every chance of going ahead as long as we don’t get more heavy snow. Stockton are having an amazing season. Having progressed from the Wearside League to the Ebac Northern League Division One over the last two years they will be playing in the semi final of the FA Vase later this month. Stockton include two former Aycliffe favourites, Jamie Owens & Fred Woodhouse, in their squad

Aycliffe then have two home games in a week. They face Jarrow Roofing at Moore Lane on Tuesday 13 March (ko 7:30pm) before welcoming Whitley Bay on Saturday 17 March (ko 3:00pm). Weather permitting!
